I was born in Singapore to Malaysian parents, and my childhood unfolded across different cultural contexts. Growing up within a large extended family, I found myself both immersed in and curious about the complexities of relationships, family dynamics, and the ways individuals experience the same environment so differently.

This curiosity evolved into a deeper exploration of the human mind, emotional life, and the patterns that shape how we relate to ourselves and others. It is a thread that continues to inform my work today.

Earlier Clinical Experience

I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at York University in 1997, where I gained early clinical experience supporting individuals with severe mental illness during my placement at what was then known as the Clarke Institute.

Following my undergraduate training, I returned to Singapore and began working in the field of addiction, supporting incarcerated men and their families.

In 2000, I obtained international certification as an Addictions Counsellor , which led me to work in San Francisco at an LGBTQIA2S+ agency supporting queer-identified men navigating addiction, mental health challenges, and HIV.

This work has shaped my identity, belonging and lived experience in gender fluid, queer and trans communities.

In 2002, I moved back to Canada, where I worked at the Jean Tweed Centre (2003), with women experiencing trauma and addiction in inpatient and outpatient settings.

I also held leadership roles supporting clinicians, supervising students, and overseeing aspects of the treatment process.

A Turning Point

In 2007, experiencing burnout became a significant turning point in both my personal and professional life.

This led me toward yoga and meditation practices as lived experiences that supported healing, balance, and a deeper understanding of the connection between mind, body, and spirit.

These experiences deepened my understanding of healing beyond a cognitive framework and shaped my commitment to integrating both Western and Eastern approaches in psychotherapy.

Yoga and meditation continue to be an integral part of my life and practice.

Building My Practice

In 2010, I completed my Master’s program in Counselling Psychology at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto.

In 2011, I established my private practice to offer a way of serving that aligns with my values- one that integrates mindfulness and somatic approaches into psychotherapy.

My work is informed by ongoing professional training including:

  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Levels 1 & 2), with a focus on trauma and developmental injury

  • Certification in Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST) through the Academy of Wisdom with Janina Fisher, Ph.D.

  • Training in mindfulness meditation through both traditional settings and structured programs such as MBSR and MBCT

  • Yoga teacher training completed in India in 2009

Alongside my private practice, I have also worked at Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Concurrent Addictions Intensive Treatment Services, the medical detox unit, and mental health services.

Between 2012 and 2017, I co-facilitated an 8-week integrative workshop series, Minding Your Inner Monkey, supporting individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression.

About Me

Growing Up Between Cultures

Outside of my clinical work, I engage in art-making, maintain a regular meditation practice, and find nourishment in travel, film, the arts, spiritual and meaningful connections.

These aspects of my life continue to inform my practice, grounding it in both lived experience, ongoing healing and self-reflection.
